Остров в Атлантическом океане у юго-восточного побережья штата Массачусетс. Отделен от материка проливом Виньярд-Саунд [Vineyard Sound] шириной около 8 км. Площадь - около 27,9 га. Главный город - Эдгартаун [Edgartown]. Остров был открыт Б. Госнолдом [Gosnold, Bartholomew] в 1602. Первое поселение на острове основано около 1642. В XVIII-XIX вв. - крупный китобойный центр. Ныне популярный летний курорт (особенно среди состоятельных туристов). Составляет большую часть округа Дьюкс [Dukes County], однако самостоятельно представлен в законодательном собрании штата [state legislature]
